#5: Construction Management Beyond Reproach [on the job]

By 2 comments

Your projects seem very interesting. I would like to talk with you more about how to use a rigorous schedule update review process to optimize construction management. I call it; construction management beyond reproach (CMBR).

I am not talking about nitpicking the minor aspects of the schedule. I agree with you, that is futile. What I am talking about is validating schedule updates on a macro basis. Assuring that the scope is well represented and the activity network is closed; that unnecessary constraints are avoided, out-of-sequence work is being managed correctly, and that the flow of the construction is accurately being mirrored and modeled by the update.

Most importantly, what CMBR focuses on is:

  1. The institution of weekly updates CPM schedule archiving
  2. Making sure the contract, the schedule, and the project are in-sync
  3. Focusing attention on monitoring/facilitating/leading schedule performance

It is important to remember that:

1.      Partnership does not trump leadership

2.      Means and method clauses do not support incompetent project management

3.      Ownership requires ownership
